What is Adyen Merchant Giving?

Learn how Adyen Merchant Giving works and how donations are processed through Goodstack

Adyen Merchant Giving enables consumers to donate to a nonprofit of their choice at the point of purchase directly from a merchant's card machine in store.

The donation amount is typically a round-up of the transaction total, making giving frictionless and habitual for consumers while requiring no additional infrastructure from the merchant.

How it works

When a consumer taps to pay, they are presented with the option to round up their transaction and donate the difference to a nominated nonprofit.

The donation is created directly via Goodstack’s API, which sets the benefitting organization, the donation amount, and the currency.

At this stage, Goodstack manages the rest: settlement, compliance, and disbursement.

Once Adyen settles the funds into Goodstack's foundation account, the donation goes through our standard compliance checks. When those pass, the foundation sends the payment directly to the nonprofit.

When a consumer chooses to donate, Adyen initiates the donation and takes care of the payment and settlement. Goodstack sits in the middle as the platform layer, managing compliance, foundation oversight, and making sure the funds reach the nonprofit. The merchant owns the consumer-facing experience, and the consumer makes the final choice as to whether they wish to donate.
